Waterfront access is available via the community dock. Common areas include five piers on the lakes and Nansemond River for the residents to enjoy the water by fishing, boating, and observing wildlife.

The community center has been planned to encourage family recreation and entertaining and supports tennis courts, a children's play area, bocce courts, an outdoor gas grill, a fire pit, walking paths and English gardens. The Village Shoppes and Vintage Tavern offer convenient shopping and dining to the residents and nearby communities. The specialty shoppes feature the Colonial Williamsburg Duke of Glouster style of architecture, retaining the English village feel of Governor's Pointe.
